Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company's Move-It 2008 Summer Workshop Series

Explore movement through dance, martial arts, & physical theater at an internationally-renowned workshop set in the stunning desert and mountain scenery of Utah.

Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company's Move It 2008 Summer Dance Workshops encourage and develop the creative spirit of all the participants. Through expert instruction and creative collaboration, a wide variety of experiences in modern dance and related dance subjects are provided. Workshops are available for the aspiring and the experienced dancer, middle and high school age dancers, and dance teachers. All classes are held in the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

Move It began in 1980 to provide students with in-depth experiences in dance and to serve as a working environment for choreography. Each year a guest artist is invited to teach and choreograph a new work for the Company. Invited guests have included 2002 Cultural Olympiad choreographer Daniel Ezralow, Tandy Beal, Alison Chase, Moses Pendleton, Doug Varone, Jamey Hampton, Pascal Rioult, Creach/ Koester, Larry Keigwin, Andrea Beckham and others.

Three Week Workshop*

Explore a range of dance fundamentals and special topics with some of the most innovative, forward-thinking contemporary artists working within the fields of dance and theater. This year's workshop will focus on modern dance technique and improvisation, the choreographic process, dance conditioning, physical theater, and Capoeira - adding a variety of movement to your dance vocabulary. There will also be performance and choreographic opportunities at the end of the workshop.

Featured faculty includes Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Kay Andersen, Jan Erkert, Abby Fiat, Sandra Shotwell, Tom Welsh, Eric Handman, Aikido instructor Geno Salvatori, and Jamaika, a nationally renowned Capoeira instructor.

* $50 deposit due at registration. Registration after June 1, 2008 - $575.
Three semester credit hours available.

Teacher's Workshop**

Celebrated teachers Jan Erkert and Abby Fiat will direct a workshop designed for teachers who are working in the university, professional, and secondary school settings. Shared experiences in technique, choreography, improvisation and experiential anatomy will provide participants the opportunity for artistic growth and rejuvenation. The mixed group of educators will address trends in the field and issues of dance training and dance making in order to increase and elevate the dialogue about teaching in the field.

** $25 deposit due at registration. Registration after June 1, 2008 - $210, Utah Teachers $110. University and in-service credit available.
Those signed up for the Teacher's Workshop can add on the Three-Week Dancer's Workshop for only $150 for one week or $300 for both!

These two-day workshops, taught by the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company dancers, are designed specifically for high school and middle school students. Classes include: modern dance technique, improvisation, folk forms, ballet, jazz, yoga and repertory. The Young Dancer's Workshop provides an incredible opportunity for students to work closely with Ririe-Woodbury Dancers. The Company will perform dances from their repertoire for the workshop participants.

Students of Ririe-Woodbury's intense Move-It Summer Workshop will present some of their own choreography in this free student showcase performance.

Housing

University of Utah - Student Housing at Olympic Village

Single Occupancy: $32/night + tax
Double Occupancy: $23/night + tax

This is where athletes stayed during the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. Rooms include linens and every two rooms share a bathroom. There are laundry facilities, a convenience store and a cafeteria on site.
Within walking distance to light rail system. $3/day or $58.50 for a month pass. 10-15 minute ride to the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
