Online Lessons and Activities/Remote Learning

Movement Lessons for Senior Citizens (Chair Dances)

Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company presents Minding Motion For Graceful Aging™ online dances, a series of seated movement sequences for seniors and older adults to maintain overall health and wellbeing. Ririe-Woodbury Outreach Director and Minding Motion Co-founder Juan Carlos Claudio will guide you through a series of gentle 2-4 minute movement sequences that incorporate coordination, range of motion, fine, and gross motor functioning from the comfort of your home. These short dances can be done in a chair, standing behind a chair or standing.

Remember the body is this beautiful and glorious vessel we reside in, take the time to notice it, and nourish it with kindness. Your safety and enjoyment of these videos is our priority; before starting our chair dance sequences, make sure your dancing area is safe and decluttered. The entire Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company is here for you, and we welcome your input, questions, and suggestions. If there is anything we can do to support you during this time, please reach out to us by email at or

Teaching Dance Improvisation DVDs and Workbooks

"Teaching Beginning Dance Improvisation" and "Teaching Advanced Dance Improvisation" are comprised of six DVDs and two workbooks, and were created as resource guides for beginning and advanced teachers of improvisational dance. These instructional packages provide suggestions for methodology, teaching hints, coaching phrases, things to look for, and alternate improvisational problems.

Shirley and Joan, both teachers of dance for more than 40 years, with video director Arthur Pembleton and video editor Pat Van Duser were awarded a grant for this project by the National Endowment for the Arts Artists In Education program in recognition of its excellence in the field of education.

The cost for both Teaching Beginning and Advanced Dance Improvisation is $300. If you buy them separately they are $175 each. If you buy one then later the other, the second will be $125. Shipping and handling fees are $20 by Fed-Ex national, and $40 international for orders of 4 or less.
