Wish You Were Here
Wish You Were Here
Choreography by Monica Bill Barnes
6 dancers plus optional additional local dancers
20 minutes
Born out of necessity while Monica was dancing by herself in her physical therapist's office in 2020, the moves for Wish You Were Here resemble a partner dance without a partner. Dancers gesture as if to ask someone to dance and then swirl their imaginary partners into ever shifting, swirling dances. Sharp gestures on top of fast footwork pivot to quick turns which grow into sweeping traveling phrases as more and more dancers accumulate onstage. These lonely, yet celebratory solos grow into a big unison finale of everyone dancing together.
