From its beginning, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company has emphasized community engagement through outreach and education. The Company is committed to community engagement through education and is unique in its ability to educate on tour. We offer many educational formats and adapt them to reach diverse audiences. The Company’s belief that “Dance is for Everybody” is reflected in our education offerings that range from performance demonstrations and creative movement classes for children to technique and master classes for dance students and professionals to therapeutic movement and yoga classes for seniors.
Ririe-Woodbury dancers are dually trained as educators and bring their expertise together with the current Company repertory to connect audience members to dance in a memorable and meaningful way. The Company works with school classes, parent-child groups, dance student groups, dance professional groups, and adult and senior groups of all skill levels, and uses pieces of current Company repertory as tools to illustrate aspects of body, action, space, time and energy.
Ririe-Woodbury community engagement activities result in enthusiastic audience members who find deep connections to dance as an art, and to the dance experienced at Company performances. Because the Company works closely with presenters and communities to tailor our residencies and performances to each presenter’s audience and community, our community engagement and education activities build performance audiences, increase community awareness of Company performances, and compliment and complete the artist-presenter partnership.
